My Karitsye / Eric Ngangare on the Archive of Forgetfulness

The Archive of Forgetfulness is an online exhibition and series of podcasts and essays that set out to question 'how we might engage with a failure of memory'. From 2019 the team of curators have been collaborating with artists to gather untold stories as an act of remembering, interrogating the politics of the archive, and imagine possible futures.

In their recent contribution, Eric Ngangare a Rwandan multimedia artist, poet, blogger, storyteller, presents his work My Karitsye. Here he explores people's connections to their local neighbourhoods in Rwanda and Burundi.

"The images and sounds of Kigali and Bujumbura express a collage of voices from different people talking about what it is like to live where they live, all the places they have lived in and their favourite places in these cities."
