ReSpace: Reanimating Contested Spaces

In the first week of October, a group of young people from Kosovo, Rwanda and the UK met together to collaborate creatively on the AHRC Changing the Story Project seeking to address questions on memory, history and spaces.  This blog will be a document that tracks their creative journey as they consider notions of memory, history and space through the creative arts. Drawing from their own artistic practices, in animation, architecture and CGI the authors of this blog will be co-creating material that will culminate in a VR experience investigating these concepts.

  1. It is incredible how memories of space/place contribute to how we view them - Once I asked an acquaintance where and what about anywhere in Geneva is a signifcant memory and this is what they said, “My favourite place in Geneva is atop a railway bridge. The bridge that hovers above the union of the two rivers: Rhône and Arve. While the Rhône river originates from the lake and generally has a clear blue colour, the river Arve is often muddy and brown. With the bridge stretching from the one side to the other, and the rivers coming together below, the place for me is a symbol of crossings. And, I like the contradiction between the generally peaceful atmosphere and the noise and energy you feel when the train rushes past! Most of all, an aura to relish a memory to cherish.”
